EHS Knights News: Authentic, Student-Led Media Production
In the TV/Video Production class, students engage in authentic, project-based learning through the creation of EHS Knights News, a student-produced news program released multiple times each semester.
This work is entirely student-driven. Students take full ownership of the production process—from identifying relevant stories and events across Ellington High School to planning coverage, filming on location, conducting interviews, and editing footage. Each episode is the result of collaborative decision-making, technical skill development, and creative problem-solving.
As a culminating performance task, students work together in the television studio to produce a complete broadcast that integrates individual segments into a cohesive program. This mirrors real-world media production environments and requires students to apply industry-aligned skills, meet production deadlines, and uphold professional standards.
Final episodes of EHS Knights News are published on the Ellington High School YouTube channel, allowing students to share their work with an audience beyond the classroom.
Through this process, students develop technical expertise, communication skills, teamwork, and media literacy—while producing meaningful content that connects directly to their school community.
