Community Service

Ellington High School students are required to complete 15 hours of community service by the end of their sophomore year. It is recommended that students start thinking about their plan for service hours beginning their freshman year!

There are two essential ways for students to keep up to date with community service opportunities. All students should be sure to regularly monitor their School Counseling Google Classroom. Counselors will post any opportunities as they come in, so be sure to check the classroom often.

Students and parents may also follow the School Counseling Department on Instagram. This is a great way to stay connected and up to date about any opportunities and events.

Some suggestions for organizations with volunteer opportunities are linked below. Please remember to complete the Community Service Form and return it to your advisor following the completion of service hours.

The Hartford library has a volunteer program. The 'American Place' program takes high school volunteers.

A wonderful place to volunteer is CT Foodshare (Member of Feeding America).

A third option is Hands on Connecticut. Everything from cooking and serving food to a wonderful backpack nutrition program.
